I started ballroom dancing lessons and initially did some digging online for instructional videos to help me visualize the steps better. I found samples of these DVDs, liked them, and ordered the whole set on Amazon to test them out with my husband. Why are these the best?-Well, the lessons are very well structured and broken down into different pieces, so you really have time to work up from the basics. They move slowly enough so you have time to digest what's going on.-The instructors show you both the man's and the woman's steps separately, from different directions.-The whole set is well done - you can see the foot movement very clearly against the background.-You learn six of the classic ballroom dances in order from the less to more difficult. You learn the basic steps, then some ladies turns and more interesting moves, and then you learn a little routine for each. They also instruct you on how to hold each other, etc...- There are six music CDs included, so you can practice figuring out which steps you should dance to which music. The first four CDs are done by dance, the last two are mixes so you get practice telling the music apart. This is great if you have no musical training.- There is an instructional book included. This is mainly to remind you of the main bits of the lessons, it's really not detailed enough to learn from it alone. But it's a nice addition.Overall, we found that these DVDs were the best ones we could find to help us review material that we already learned in our live lessons. I think these DVDs might also be a good introduction for complete beginners who have not taken lessons yet, so that they can get an idea of what is involved. However, I don't think these DVDs can replace the real experience of taking lessons. They are just a fantastic supplement or intro.
